genre:

school life, drama

Review:

As you begin reading the manga you get a glimpse of the life being led by the main character. His nonchalant and haughty attitude towards life and others around him.

The turning point is when he gets awe struck while looking at the giant painting in the art room where he begins rethinking about his life and the decisions he has made. His passion for art starts burning when he trys putting everything he has to offer to draw the beautiful Shibuya scenery with bustling modern elements yet calm and peaceful with the rising sun.

The art work is perfect with the display of emotions and thoughts of the main character, his joy and confusing after getting praised for his effort. His happiness for being able to connect with others using art.

The manga also does a great job of explaining the different types of creative ways of creating art. The different tones, textures, colours and their meaning in terms of depth, emotion and interpretation. You also learn about various tools and stationary used along with the character. It shows how each and every person has different abilities and thoughts and ways to express them. Where art can be a cage to some it can be liberating for others.

The continuous nagging about the fees and requirements to get into an art school is a drag but an important detail to make the story realistic. A necessary evil

Conclusion:

Blue period is a manga which shows the struggle and growth of an artist and is definitely worth a read
